Play DVD While Driving

Has anyone had any luck breaking the DVD out from "park and play only" without spending a fortune? Basically has anyone found a download that will allow you to play DVD's while driving that you can just upload and go? I found a website that offers it for a few more $$$ than I would like to spend.

You are aware, that it is illegal to have a video device within view of the driver, while the vehicle is in forward motion right? Driving, while watching a movie is going to be alot more distracting then even texting.

If it is locking it out while not in park, then it's pretty obvious what its for. That will make for a great wrongful death lawsuit.

Plain and simple why in the world have a DVD player in your vehicle and not be able to watch a movie on it. I can't remember the last time that I said hey why watch this on my 50" TV when I could be out in the garage watching it on a 4.5" TV in my car. Yes it is more distracting than texting but so are the million other things we all do driving everyday, ie. texting, talking, listen and change the radio, stare at the hot girl in the car next to us, scream at the kids in the back, rubber neck at the wreck from the last guy texting. You see my point. If you want to split hairs, one of the FMVSS (Federal motor vehicle safety standards) people stated that the hands free technology is the worst thing to happen to cars since the radio. He would like to see cars go back to absolutey nothing in them that can possibly distract drivers. So back to my point, my wife and I travel, drive, for vacation to see many of the great spots in this beautiful country of ours. THis means many long hours that have included, God forbid, a portable DVD player to help keep our sanity after 12 hours of driving. I guess I have tempted fate and should not do this but I think I may anyway and roll those dice. Thanks for the helpful advice everyone on this subject.

Having a movie playing in view of the driver while the vehicle is in motion is illegal. period. And it's absolutely NOT the same as not being able to watch your TV in your living room. If you are distracted by the porn flick playing while your walking across the floor and you stumble and fall down, you've dropped your beer and made a mess. If you're distracted by that movie while driving - someone dies, and since you're driving a tough vehicle there's a better than even chance it'll be the innocent occupant(s) of the car you plowed into. It's a dumb thing to do.

You may consider it unreasonably restrictive - but as another driver on the road, I'm good with you keeping YOUR eyes and YOUR attention focused on the road while I'm anywhere around you. Not to mention your Wife sitting next to you and the kids in the back. You say you want to "roll those dice?" I say go ahead - but do it by grabbing yourself a six shooter and play yourself a nice game of russian roulette - that way if you shoot craps YOU'RE the only one that pays the price.

Twice I've seen accidents where the driver was dicking around with a phone. One was a rear end collision, as I was passing I heard the smash and in an instant I saw the air bag deploy and toss his phone across the car. The other ran a red light. T-Bone. I was in the turn lane and watched this guy drive past looking down into his lap - then he disappeared in a cloud of smoke and debris. The guy died in that one. Every day I see something in the press about some idiot either dying or killing someone because they were doing something stupid with their phone. Sorry dude - driving while watching a movie puts you right at the front of the "idiot" line ...

Thank you I have been trying for several years to make it to the front of that line. I have played Russian Roulette several times high on cocaine while driving and that didn't quite get me there. But finally I have found a way to get to the front. I will let everyone know once I have unlocked my DVD player and at long last receive my title as "Head of the Idiot Line." And please, jeepster-d, remove the radio from your car before you wreck and kill some innocent person, because tuning the radio is just as distracting as any other electronic device that we all have come accustomed to.

My initial response was unacceptable. Having watched someone die because of stupid behind the wheel activities leaves a lasting impression and has created a passion that is difficult to contain at time. Wish you well 1st kk - I sincerely hope you figure it out.

Jeepster-d I understand your position on this subject but there is the capability of using this feature for mutiple passengers by simply adding a screen. I have zero desire of popping in a movie and heading to work or the family's for the holiday. But it is a nice feature for long trips. It wouldn't be much different than listening to the radio for background noise for me. Remember that now you can look at your radio to see the station and who is singing what. In my mind that isn't incredibly different. I also understand that some people do not get the concept of paying attention while driving. I also feel everyone should take a common sense course before driving. We can't stop everyone from being dumb behind the wheel of a 4000 lb death machine. I also realize that seeing a wreck can be almost as tragic as being in that wreck. I apologize for getting you worked up on this subject. Sometimes we don't realize what hits close to home for others.
