And the power supply taps into the line powering the trailer wiring harness:

Have any tips on finding the trailer wiring harness to tap into?
Mine did not have a tow package, do you think the wires will still be there?

The wiring harness plugs into the driver's side rear light and then the lights plug into the wiring harness.

On mine there is a red power wire from the battery that feeds the sack of relays (for lack of a better description) on the trailer wiring harness. I spliced into that red wire for power, but I also added an inline fuse at the battery end for safety. Here is what the wiring harness looks like:

Am I missing something? Should have to fuse if the inverter has a fuse, right??

Is that with the Factory Tow Package? The OEM add on 7pin wiring harness has a blue wire to run to the battery but you don't need to hook it up unless you have a brake controller or want to have a hot pin. Running lights and brake lights work from the taillight housing pigtail.

bwsooner6: I guess I like to be careful. It's good to have the fuse as close to the battery as possible.

_benjammin: I have the OEM 4 pin wiring harness so a I guess my wire color is different. The PO put it in and there are some custom wiring connections, so maybe the red wire doesn't come standard?

Even so, it is easy to run a power wire back there from the front, going behind the plastic trim.

Good point, because of the amperage, I'll probably just run a new wire back

You make me school girl jealous with your nifty ideas. My battery just died on the weekend because the lights were on when the back was open.
