I've had quite a few different sets of tires in my days. I don't follow the crowd when it comes to tires as the crowd seems to have a lot of misconceptions about what constitutes a superior tire.
Like most of us, I spend a lot of time commuting but when I hit the trail I need to be confident my tires are going to perform and last.
Here's a sample of some of the tires I've had that are totally streetable yet do the job offroad.

Currently running these...Michelin LTX AT2s

Goodyear silent armors

Goodyear Wrangler radials

BFG Longtrails

I have a 2012 with the Goodyear tires on my Sport model. At at least 3,000 miles I noticed one was bald. I had to get an alignment, which I had to fight with the dealership to do, I had the warranty printed out and showed it to them. Now they all look really bald and I know have 10,500 miles on it. The guy at Goodyear told me they are junk, duh. I would like to get a big beefy tire like I had on my Durango. So yes, what kind would be good? I had BF Goodrich on my Durango

I'm in the same boat as you and my Good Year SRA's are getting pretty worn down especially with the heat we are having this summer. The tires are pretty horrible at handling and hydroplane pretty easy, however, tread life on them are pretty good. So far I have 55K on them and still are little past the half way mark. The tires came stock 235/70r16 when I bought the Lib from new from the stealership.

Next set of tires that I looking at are Michelin LTX Ms/2's only heard really good things on multiple sites about this tire. Pep Boys has a price I saw for 245/70R16 176.00 buy 3 get one free. So still gonna shop around and probably replace SRA's before next winter.

When you get knee-deep in a situation, floor it.

I had my tires all picked out before I took ownership of my Liberty. I picked the vehicle up one night after work, and the next day went to America's Tire and got $50.00 credit for each of my SR/As towards my new tires!
