New 2012 KK- humming after hitting 4th gear

Hi everyone. I just bought one of the last 2012 KKs left on the lot. I wanted to own a real SUV before they become completely extinct and replaced entirely by crossovers. Even the dealer described the Liberty as being a "relic," in which I responded, "That's why I'm buying it!"

Anyways, I digress... I followed the factory break-in requirements, but am now getting some humming/vibration from the rear of the vehicle just after it goes into 4th gear between 50-55 mph. The vibration isn't bad, but it is slightly noticeable through the floorboard and can be heard if you're listening closely. It seems to go away after I reach 60mph, or it could just be getting washed out by other road noise.

Is anyone familiar with this. Is it normal? I've only put about 600 miles on the Libby so far. I am wondering if I should keep "breaking it in" or whether I should take it back to the dealership. Advice?

I just bought the last KK a dealer had for the same reason. Mine makes the same noise. I think its normal trans noise.

Mine seemed to be related to the 235/60R18 goodyear forteza tires. When I changed to 16's, it went away.

There is also some talk of a programmed breaking in period for the torque converter clutch. Supposedly this manifests itself as a shudder for the first few thousand miles as the TCC is allowed to slip momentarily in order to "lap" the mating surfaces together.

Could be the rear diff. Regardless, I would wait until 10,000 miles before I brought it into the service dept. Let the parts wear together and then see where you're at. You've got a 5yr/100,000 mile warranty on the drivetrain.

Congrats. I just picked up a KK for the same reason. Luckily we still have the Wrangler, which will hopefully be my next purchase. Sorry I don't have anything to contribute to the vibe problem.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to put some miles on it and see if it resolves. I'll update if anything changes.
