Liberty New engine?

New Chrysler Pentastar V-6 Engine Earns 'Ten Best' Kudos from Ward's Automotive

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 7, 2010 /PRNewswire/ --

* Newest Chrysler engine recognized by the Editors of Ward's Automotive as one of the "Ten Best" for 2010
* Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 cited for exceptional fuel economy, emissions and power
* New engine destined to be workhorse in many Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge cars and Ram trucks

Chrysler LLC Powertrain's newest engine, the Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6, has been recognized by Ward's Automotive as one of the 'Ten Best" engines for 2010.

Introduced in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the new engine will soon be available in 10 vehicles across the 2011 Chrysler line-up including Chrysler 200, 300 and Town & Country minivans; Dodge Avenger, Challenger, Charger, Durango and Journey, and Dodge Town & Country . By 2014 the new Pentastar V-6 is expected to account for more than one third of the powertrains in the Chrysler line-up and will substantially contribute to achieving an overall corporate fuel efficiency improvement of 25 percent.

"We designed the new Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 to meet a variety of requirements in terms of fuel efficiency and power for passenger cars, minivans and sport utilities," said Bob Lee, vice president of engine engineering and advanced propulsion systems for Chrysler. "Already we are looking forward to adapting future technologies to the Pentastar V-6 as they become available for even more fuel efficiency and performance."

"Every year, Ward's Automotive recognizes the industry leaders in engine technology," said Drew Winter, editor at Ward's Automotive. "The new Pentastar delivers on all fronts including fuel economy, lower emissions and power."

Slated to be Chrysler's new workhorse V-6, the new 3.6-liter Pentastar will replace seven current V-6 engines ranging in displacements from 2.7 – 4.0-liters by 2013.

Chrysler Group LLC should build this instead....

pass, get the old 4.0L I6 back

that thing only has 60hp more and its 2 seconds slower. And the mileage is about the same, if not worse.

You do realize there's a lot more to MPG and speed than just the engine, correct?

of course there is. this V6 seems a bit slower, but more torque and pulling power and better emissions than the I6.

It's installed in heavy vehicle so of course it's going to be "slower".

i vaguely remember my 4.0L being housed in a 4,200lb ZJ, and the 2011 Liberty is only 4,050lbs. with a brand new exhaust, computer, etc etc. and still 2 secs slower

Curb Weight for a KK 4x4 is also around 4200lbs. Where'd you get 4050 from?

This thread does not make any sense at all to me, maybe Im missing something? First its talking about the 3.6 pentastar and then it shows a pic of the 4.0 thats already in service, in the nitro and minivans. Dodge - 2010 Nitro - Capability - Powertrain

Also that 0-60 time is wrong for the Nitro, ive read times varying from 6.9-7.7

yeah the nitro has a different exhaust and addons that make the times faster. plus they got different gearings and such that contribute to that. but take out the engine and put it in a liberty or van or whatever its gonna have a slower time. im assuming that time readout is the average out of all the vehicles OR the engine itself lol

imo, if the AMC 4.0L were to race the 4.0L V6 with just wheels on it. I'd bet on the older one

Really? I felt like the old one was slower when I drove it. Either way I would love for Jeep to put something a little more powerful than the 3.7L in the liberty, Im not trying to race the thing just a little passing power.

yeah i gotcha, i dont like racing them either, but I couldnt resist my last ZJ's speed, that thing was faster than average i swear, idk what the po did to it. it definitely had more than enough passing power for sure.

im glad i have the 2.5L in my YJ now, lets me sit back and chill in traffic, makes it easier on my lifestyle and the Jeep as well. not to mention the 20+ mpg in the city

My next Jeep is definitely going to have the AMC 4.0L again

I also liked the 4.0L in my 1997 Grand Cherokee. Never a problem with the engine in 100,000mi and @ 2mpg better than I am getting with my new 2010 Liberty Renegade. But the Cherokee was 2WD, not 4WD.

I did not see it stated that the Liberty was about to get the new 3.6L Pentestar engine. When will the 3.7L V6 be dropped from the Liberty? Or will it be?

The Liberty gets a remake in '13 when it becomes a Fiat.I would take the 4.0 V6 anyday over the AMC 4.0.I have a 06 Charger with the 3.5 which is where the 4.0 came from, and would beat any 4.0 AMC.I use to work on the 4.0 AMC so I know what power it has.
