It's too dark out to go take the picture now, but I have a ROLA roof basket and a 3 foot Firestik on a door jamb mount over the passenger's side tail light. With the quick disconnect and HD spring, it sits about a foot higher than the basket, and SWR isn't a big issue. I was able to tune it to something like 1.2-1.4 SWR, IIRC. I have the quick disconnect for parking garages, and when it's parked in my Philly neighborhood overnight.

Thats exactly what I need to see. I am getting the Rolla basket so that would be perfect. Only difference is that i do not have the quick disconnect.

OK, Pics as promised: My mount location and two views of the 3 foot Firestik with the Rola roof basket. The antenna has a HD spring and a quick disconnect, which adds a bit of height.

Thats perfect. I dont have the quick disc, so mine would be about 4in shorter but that sits over the basket a good amount. Think im deff doing the 3ft. How do you feel your output/reception is? What radio are you running?

Btw, i was just in PA last week with the family.

Glad the pics and the height of the 3 foot antenna works for you. I just thought the 4 foot Firestik would be a little over the top...

The output and reception seems fine. I've chatted with truckers and other random people on the Interstate, and sometimes I can receive from more than 6 miles away (IIRC). I am not entirely sure of how far I can broadcast yet. I'm running a Cobra 75WXST, which is great for 2 reasons: 1) it is all self contained in the handset - no need to fit a big radio box somewhere, and 2) the handset is removable so I can hide it when I park on the street at night. Can't wait to have a garage someday... One final cool thing about this radio is that it receives NOAA weather bands.

I have a 4' firestick and it's kinda long for the woods. The 3' seems like a better option. The 4' has a pretty good range though.

Would you happen to have any pics with the 4' on?

My god that is gimongous! Ha ha. Im sure you can talk across the state with that. Lol

I think the 3ft will be sufficient for me.

Now to go off topic: (perhaps you have threaded this before and can direct me to it)....
I have another question for now though! How do you have that winch mounted?

Ahh, the winch mount. Very nice product from Detoures down in Kentucky. The thing is super strong and mounted very well. Basically, it's a winch bumper without the bumper part. The lights are on a smittybilt hawse fairhead mount.

Have any closer pictures? What did it entail to install it?

No problem!
I am also considering doing either this or the steel bumper. Leaning a bit towards the Backbone. Either way I would need some serious help with the task.
