Good luck with your install. Its been fun running around listening to all them truckers jabber on. although i have been hearing a lot of some schmuck hi-jacking the standard trucker channel and it couldnt be anymore annoying. I did have to pull my CB out as my Fire Chief got me setup with one of the VHF/UHF Mobile Radios since I am about to become a lieutenant on the fire dept im on. Jeep looks insane with three antennas coming off her!!

How did you guys ground the antenna??? Did you sand down the body at all to get bare metal?

You don't need to. Worse of all, if you ground it wrong, the signal gets re-routed and doesn't even get out. This happened on my Buddies JK. We pulled the ground and lo-and-behold the CB worked perfectly.

The most important thing you can do is tune the antenna. If you key the Mic before the antenna is tuned you can blow the radio. Unfortunately, i did this on my UHF radio and had to have it replaced, so it can happen!

Plus, technically it is grounded by the mount itself.

Ok. I know the mount acts as the ground but wasn't sure if that would be compromised bolting it up to the painted surface of the truck. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that. I am kicking myself in the @ss right now though because I went with the firestik O-ring kit. Think that is going to become problematic. Worse case scenario I just change out the hardware I guess! Thanks for the feedback. Plus I think I should have ordered the 3 or 4 foot firefly. Think that may be a quick replacement. The 2 ft should be ok for now, but once I put the basket on the roof I think I'm go an have to go higher.

Well luckily antennas are the one mod that is cheap. Spend another 30 bucks and have your longer one. When i bought everything it was just the mount (comes with everything you need to connect), the spring, cabling, and the antenna. CB I already had. hardest part is getting all the plastic back in place once you pull it to route the cable, and i didnt pull it all the way out either, just enough to snake the cable through.

Couldn't agree with you more. Not even that much. Can pick up a firefly for $20. Now question is (and accepting input) do I go 3' or 4'. I too have a plethora of radios but since even with today's technology they can't make a compact radio that's worth a dam so think I'm gonna just pick up a Cobra 75.

thats purely up to you. 3 feet will be plenty high to achieve good signal, but go big or go home! right? I would almost try and find something and measure it out just to be sure you are happy with how high it is. Cobra 75 is fine too, my brother and my buddy both have them and dont have any complaints about it. only funny thing is the scan function. once it hits a channel it will stay on that channel after receiving the signal and not go back into scan mode.

Exactly. Once I get it all set up I can add another foot or two to the top of the two footer and see how rediculous it will look. I did get the HD spring so I do have room to go big if I decide to.

Ok. For those who have mounted to the rear harch door jam and run coax through taillight, how did you pull off the molding in the rear to run it? Will it just pop out or is there a trick to it?

I got it out. It does pop out with a little prying from a screw driver, but I cannot figure out how to get the coax through the cent and into cabin. I have been using a coat hanger to guide but not finding it.

WOW! What a pain in the @ss that was. But finally got it in. If I have SWR issues, I'm blowing this truck up! Ha ha

Nice job. I like how the color of your antenna matches your truck.
