Jeep Liberty Sales through 12/31/2010

Now that Chrysler had published December's sales info, here's updated info through 12/31/2010 so all info is based upon full calendar years. Jeep Liberty (KK) sales were up 14% in 2010 over the horrible vehicle sales year of 2009.

Chart I made of annual Jeep Liberty sales (through 12/31/2010):

Again, assuming 75% of Libertys sold in 2007 were KJ models and the remaining 25% were KK models, this puts the current totals so far at about:
  • 960,000 KJs (2002-2007 "model years")
  • 183,000 KKs (2008-present "model years")
So, still more than 5 times as many KJs around than KKs.....

Here's my table showing distribution amongst Jeep models (through 12/31/2010):

and in Chart format (through 12/31/2010):

You can certainly see that the new Grand Cherokee has really helped Jeep in 2010.

While nobody can deny that the KJ has sold less than the KK, you gotta include several sales-killing factors:

1. Economic Conditons
2. Temporary end of leasing for Chrysler.
3. Reinstatement of leasing for Chrysler, however this has not been widely publicized.
4. No financing deals (until just recently).... no huge rebates anymore.

I've noticed that a LOT of Jeeps are leased.... especially in my area. Chrysler would also sometimes overlook someone's credit history if they were paid every month... which led to even more increased sales. Now everyone has to go through GMAC/Ally Bank....and they don't have the cheap $99-$199/mo lease deals Chrysler Financial used to brag about... that price sold a heck of a lot of KJs.

You meant "...that the KK has sold less than the KJ, ..." or "...that the KJ has sold more than the KK, ...." didn't you? The older Liberty KJ has outsold the current Liberty KK many fold.

I agree with the rest of your comment.

I at least feel like I got awesome pricing ordering my KK in January 2009.

Yup, that's what I meant. Oops. In addition to that, IMO, I believe that the Liberty lost a lot of its "OMG, IT'S SO CUTE!!!" buyers when the vehicle got squared off.
