Help ! read of jeep leaking OIL bad.

noticed today, puddle, back of jeep leaking oil, guessing its the rear diff, sorry guys , know very little about vehicles, i took off plug and put finger in to test how much oil i had and it was still pretty full, jeep not running weird.

hopefully its just a simple seal or something that is not very costly. not even sure where to take it, so im not ripped off, dealer always the most, i have a warranty , added care plus but not sure if this would be something covered.

Pics would be helpful. Keep in mind, a lot of times the leaks are from the front of the vehicle and the fluid is blown backwards by air flow. Whenever a vehicle comes in with a leak, it gets picked up all the way into the air so we can look at everything underneath. That would be the best bet, and a reputable shop would allow you to see the leak as well before you ok any repairs. I can name literally dozens of places that can leak fluid from the jeep. Trick is to find the exact source and deal with repairing the leak, and the cause of it.

Looks like the pinion seal in the rear differential is leaking, pretty bad. Would have to be there to see it in person to verify, but that is what I see. Could be a bad seal, and/or could be related to worn pinion bearings that created excessive play in the pinion.

if its the pinion seal how bad is it to get fixed? i have the added care plus warranty but jeep makes you pay $100 to even look at it and then decide if its freaking covered.

Any number of shops will give you a free estimate. Take it in for that and get it confirmed and then call your jeep dealer to see of the warranty covers that

That sounds about right. We have a warehouse napa open till 5pm on sundays so that's not necessarily a problem.

Parts store would be my guess. Not my first choice for a seal. OE 99% of the time is the way to go, especially for the price difference.
