2011 Liberty

I have a 2011 Liberty and have the exact same problem. I went to the dealership today and they told me it was completely normal. They even showed me in another "11 Liberty. I bet this is going to become a problem in the future. With only 7000 miles on it, ive noticed the sound getting louder.

It is normal. It is the system engaging. I would be more worried if I didn't hear it.

I just had my 08 serviced today and asked one of the mechanics about the very same issue. When I have my car on the sand (4wd) and one of my tires spin I get the same sound as described in this thread. It is the ABS system. I experimented last time out and put the car in 4wd and hit the ESP button and was able to tear though the sand without the ABS system applying the break to the wheel that was slipping.

Very annoying sound.... sounds like a machine gun going off

When drifting around put your car in 4wd and push the esp button and you'll have a ball

Yup, normal. You can even get it to engage in 2wd drive if you slip on ice or gravel. Its saved my a$$ a couple of times from spinning out in the snow here.
