Gas Gauge

Hi All! I just bought 2008 liberty and fill up the gas full tank, and Gauge needle went down to empty position and the light turns on. After about 50 miles the light goes off the needle starts going toward full tank position. I have no idea whats wrong with it.
Any suggestions???
Thanks

Here is a test you can do to see if its the gauge or the sender unit in the tank. With the trip meter pushed in,turn key to on,do not start engine. All you gauges should go in full right postion and slowly go back down to bottom of gauge. If your gauge goes all the way to full, then comes down slowly back to empty, then you know you have sender unit problem.
