Ran the liberty till it was running on fumes, dealership replaced the tank in less than two hours. Works great!

However when it was still burping before I got it replaced, I would fill the tank with the lowest speed setting on the filler handle and the problem would not occur

Mine seems to have quit on it's own. Anyone else noticed that?? The last three times we've filled her up she didn't burp at all.

I had to pay to have the filler tube and gas tank replaced in January of 2012 due to really bad back splash every time I filled it. I submitted a claim for reimbursement under the extended warranty following the instructions in the letter that I received.

Chrysler sent me a check in less than a week after I electronically submitted the invoices.

I received the letter and had the repair done right away. No more burp up. However, after a couple days my "Gas Cap" light went back on. (Of course this happened after I expressed my relief of not staring at a check engine light for over 2 years!) I'm sure that is because they reset it while clearing the evap check engine light.

This is my 2nd gas cap.

Would the evap problem have ruined the seal on a newer cap?

Is there a specific cap (i.e O.E.M) that i should replace it with before i reset?

You might have an evap leak. Try getting a good gas cap instead of a cheap one and see. The cheap ones never lasted me a year in one of my trucks.

If your check engine light comes back on you can get the codes yourself without a code reader on some of the liberty models. I've never tried it with mine but my friend had a KJ that was always giving him problems (he didn't take care of it) and we got his codes like this:

Insert the key, turn to on, acc, on, acc, on and keep it there. Watch the odometer.

Had the wifes Liberty gas tank fixed at Yark a couple of weeks ago. They tell me they replaced the gas tank. It took almost 8 weeks before one came in.
It sure is nice to stick the nozzle in and let it run without getting washed down with gas.

Sagerist, That's the way the wifes Liberty acted. It was okay for first couple of years then acted up once in awhile. It's not like I put gas in every day because it's an '08 and has 28,000. But this year it splashed every time. I put up with it but other family members started driving it once in awhile and I didn't want them getting washed down with gas.
Don't take my word for it but I think I read that Chrysler made this a permanent recall item to be fixed any time.

Yea I think it's open to any model jeep with the issue according to one of the responses in this thread. Just need the find the time to get down there and have them fix it.

Mine doesn't "burp" but 50% of the time a small amount will dribble down the side then I have to clean it off immediately with a squeegee. Wondering if I should just get it done.
Not a big fan of going to the stealership if I don't have to.

I had my tank replaced at around 50K now, have 66k on it and no issues. Still get a little nervous when the gas attendant over fills the tank once in the while and start smelling gas. All in all everything ok.

Gotta be a man about it and pump it yourself like me. They know me very well at the station.
NEVER top off these tanks! Once it clicks, it's done.

I noticed mine was doing this burp thing every time I filled up. I finally called the dealership last week and told them what was happening. He checked and said bring it in there is a SB for it and all will be fixed under warranty. Taking it in today, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Well got my Jeep back after lunch today. Replaced the fuel tank all under the warranty. Filled up after I left and no splash back. Very happy about that.
