Finally put the CB in....

Now with a little warmer weather I finally had the will to go out and do my soldering and put in the cobra 75 box under the shifter. Drilled the mic mount. My las step is to connect the power. For a quick install think I'm just gonna wire up a auxiliary plug for temp use. Still wanna do a direct wire. Looking for suggestions please.

At the end of the day I don't want to permanently run it off the aux outlet. I want it hard wired so all wires are out of the way

U am just a dope when it comes to vehicle wiring. U am not sure where to run the lines.

Where do you want to hard wire it to? the battery? i ran cables through the grommet by the steering wheel and straight to the battery for power and grounded it to a screw near by. But that leaves you with always having power on which may be trouble if you forget to turn the CB off. so its what you are looking for i guess.

I guess that's an option but didn't really want to run wires all the way to the battery. If I did go that route, what gauge wires did you use?

I was more looking to find something under the dash. I would imagine aux outlet would be best but how do I access these wires. Do I need to remove dash panel where outlet is? Or is there easier assess under the dash so I don't need to start pulling things apart?

I just looked for wires under the dash that draw power with the key on and tapped into that

Yea i agree tapping into those wires would be nice since you dont have to worry about it, but going straight to the battery is ridiculously easy. Im not sure of the gauge i used, but they were the same gauge as the leads coming off the CB. You might be able to access the cig lighter wires once you pull the plastic covering the shifter. If not, then the power running to the Aux power plug in the back should be running right through and you can tap into those.

That's what I originally tried. Cannot access cig/aux wired (at least from what I can see) under the shifter panel and I do not have a rear aux port.

I agree, running to the battery is probably my easiest way to do it. I already have wires running through to the switch for my KC's. think that's what I am going to do real quick this weekend so I can run my radio on a road trip then when weather is a bit nicer will get down and dirty and re-wire it neatly under the dash. Thanks for the input.

ah yea, you have the 2011. I feel like they stopped that for 2010's on. that's pretty lame. I use the plug to charge my iphone since my cig lighter is used for my radar detector and one of the radios. There is a right up somewhere, i want to say its on LOST in the tech section about how to get the carbonfiber graphic plastic off. Then you will for sure have access to the cig lighter. I will probably tap into it too since i have sooo many cables from the cig lighter itself now.

the shifter piece or the carbonfiber one? the one around the shifter comes right off no problem. lift it from the corners furthest back, then pop the front clips off, they are kind of on a hinge and pivot up so it can slide under the carbon fiber thing.

Yea the shifter piece is the easy on. I've popped that off dozens of time especially when I was planning on wiring my KC switch. The carbon finer one I felt I would have broken.
