This maybe old news, but I say axe the nitro. Chrysler killed the Commander to make way for the Patriot and compass. Now snuff one out of dodge line up.
Simple: Chrysler is in the auto business to make money. At the end of each fiscal year chrysler should look at each Jeep and dodge models and which didn't meet its sale quota, gets axed I like the nitro, but like an NFL coach, if you got to go, you gotta go

Continuing its cost-cutting moves to bring profits into greener territory, Chrysler LLC has decided to cancel either the Dodge Nitro or Jeep Liberty SUV by the end of 2012. Slashing production of either SUV, both built on the same base and nearly the same vehicle under different badges, will save Chrysler on development and marketing costs. Since the vehicles are within the same market segment, cutting one will eliminate a market competitor.
Chrysler's North American sales chief Steve Landry confirmed the melding to "one branded body" for the Nitro and Liberty: "As we move toward 2012, we don't have this dual branding of products and duplicating products."
The Liberty SUV was introduced in 2002, with a major restyling for 2008, and the Nitro was introduced in November 2006. Sales of the Liberty through August 2008 stood at 49,330 units, while Nitro sales were at 27,540. The figures are down 21% and 44% compared with 2007 figures, respectively.
Stephanie Brinley, a product analyst at AutoPacific Inc. in Southfield, Michigan, says Chrysler is most likely to eliminate the Nitro: "The Jeep Liberty has far more heritage than the Nitro. The Nitro doesn't really do enough for the Dodge brand."
