Center console lid question

The center console on my 2012 Liberty opens up to 180 degrees, which seems way too far and I can actually see stress on the console lid when it is open that far. Was in for service the other day and sat in a used 2011 Liberty and noticed that the console lid didn't open anywhere near that far.

Does the 2012 version open up a lot further, or is something broken on my console lid hinge that is allowing it to open too far? I noticed that the hinge on the 2011 seemed to be different than on my 2012.

Thank you.

Interesting. My 2008 opens all the way like yours and I agree that it looks like it puts stress on it.

my 2012 opens up to a 90 degree angle. It's a little bit of a flimsy design overall but I'm fully aware of it and haven't had any problems.

My 2012 opens to 90 too. Sounds like something is broken.

My 2011 opens all the way too and the stress deff there. I can't remember if it ever only opened to 90 deg so not 100% sure I it's broke or not. However it just doesn't seem right.

My 2012 opens all the way too and I always wondered about the stress it's putting on the hinges.

My Liberty is gone right now, so I don't have a good photo showing the angle of the console lid when open, but here you can see the stress on the lid and console near the hinge.

Here is a photo of a 2011 Limited. Note the angle of the console lid when open and the lack of stress on the lid and console.

Looks like the 2011 version works a lot better than the 2012. Anyone know why the change, or is the 2011 hinge only in the Limited for some reason. The 2011 version seems to be attached more directly to the console lid, and the hinge design holds the lid from falling too far back.

Can't figure out why the 2012 design was changed, if the lid is supposed to fall further back, or if something is broken.

Maybe someone with a Limited can chime in with a picture. Mine is a 2008 Sport.

I have a 2011 Limited and it opens to 90 degrees. A little late right now to go out and take pictures, but it works fine and isn't "stressed" at all.

My 2011 Sport opens like Gage's. Maybe it's just the leather trimmed ones?
