Battery terminal quick release mod

I replaced my battery and while installing the 10mm nut, it fell. I heard it fell and hit the ground and for the life of me I could not find it! spent about 15 minutes looking for it. I finally give up and went and buy a $1.25 wing nut with a looking washer attached to it.

Each time I change my oil I reset the ECU, by ALWAYS removing the NEG-(black)terminal first, then the POS+(red) terminal. takes me 10 seconds to unsrew the wing nut and remove the cable. Then ALWAYS INSTALL THE POS+ (RED)TERMINAL FIRST AND THE NEG - (BLACK) TERMINAL LAST10271018.jpg

The negative should always be removed before the positive and when you put it back together its the opposite, positive then negative.

I work at a store called Battery Source and we see a lot of bad stuff. One thing I have to highly suggest is to NOT USE WING NUTS. They come loose easier and will start to vibrate and arc. This will cause them to start welding and then melt your terminal . I see this at least once a month.

I installed the locking wingnut in the summer of 2009 and I can honestly say It has never arched, melted or welded against the terminal

I wanted to get these terminals ($5 ea.), but the red cover protects it nicely.

QUICK RELEASE BATTERY CLAMPS TERMINALS QR on eBay (end time 27-Dec-10 03:57:45 GMT)

I have something similair on another car I own and have never had a problem, they are fast, easy, and you dont have to mess around with nuts bolts or anything else.
