It takes a while for the engine to break in. Once it does, you will get better mileage. That's good mileage for a Liberty with only 600 miles.

I got 23.7 mpg regularly on long freeway trips with my '08. Now with my roof basket on I get closer to 20 because of the drag. So I think you'll be ok after your engine breaks in. My city mileage is a lot less impressive (14 or so).

With my 2011 Jet I get just short of 17 mph with fairly aggressive driving with 50/50 highway and city. I run mobile 1 synthetic exclusively.

45K on mine and I've been getting 20 mpg city. Haven't been on the highway in a while, but I would imagine 3 or more mpg better.

Besides my mods, just overall awareness of the road ahead. When you're used to the town you drive in, you know how long the lights are, where the stop signs are, etc., and can adjust your driving habits to them. This all leads me to be able to coast very far.

Did 11 mpg few weeks ago after 3weeks of city+snow. I never managed to do better than 16mpg during summer. Almost no highway though.

Oh yes u did make a bad decision. The mileage is deplorable. I get 200 miles a tank with local driving and 260 "assertive"(lol) highway driving. I can't bring myself to drive like a granny. But we rented a Kia Sorrento V6 a few years ago and I was amazed we got almost 400 miles from the tank. And I didn't drive like a granny then.

There ya go. Exactly what I see out of mine. Must be the NY air. Don't know how these guys are getting 19-21 mpg.

My in-town mileage on my Liberty runs from anywhere between 13 and 15.5 MPG. The best in-town mileage comes from using the "towing mode" and kicking off the overdrive. I find that in the slow, slower, and waiting for the light to turn red again while the pill head in front of me is texting kind of driving I do I have to give it more gas to push the vehicle along with the overdrive engaged. It's easier to keep it in that sweet spot of 2000 rpm with the tow button engaged. Mind you I commute 20 miles a day round trip. I'll hit at least 25 traffic lights, none of which are synchronized to facilitate traffic flow. Our locals believe that the longer they keep you in town sitting at a red light, the more likely you are to stop and spend money. I can easily get 21 or so MPG on the highway. My best was 24 MPG on a pretty fast run to Cleveland.

Your commute sounds like a carbon copy of mine, right down to the same mileage stats. I will have to try the tow/haul button and see what kind of difference it makes.

You have to realize your Lib originally classified as a compact SUV and now Fiat considers it a mid-size SUV weighs 4300 lbs. That is heavy! I would love to see a comparison of the torisional rigidity between an '08 lib vs 14' Cherokee. Anyway being a northeast resident, when temperature falls below 38 degrees, and "winter gas" you will see a major decline in mpg. One thing you can look at to increase mpg, excluding driving skills, engine mods and tunes is replacing your tires with those ecofriendly ones, however you will sacrifice performance when doing so. I benn averaging 15.5 both hwy and city mixed for the last 2 months. Best I ever got was 20 mpg hwy
