what transmission

Ok so I recently did a trans service on my 03 3.7l auto 4x4 kj. The first kit I picked up consisted of a long diamond shape filter and a spin on one as well. When I pulled the pan, there was only one small square filter. After some confirmation the p#'s were right, they checked under 2.4l and was correct one. I saw the computer screen at the parts store myself and saw the listings. Apparently I have a 42rle. Is this a screw up in thier system or what? I'm sure they must have sold many of these filters but no one that was there had encountered this. They'd like me to let them know what I find out.

Most auto parts stores only list the 45RFE trans for the KJ(for the auto trans),the dealership is the only place that I have found that can get you the correct parts via your VIN#.

Your '03 almost certainly has the 42RLE transmission. There's an outside chance you have the 45RFE as a very limited number of early model year '03s got them.

Easy way to find out: Crawl underneath and count the bolts in the transmission pan. 42RLE = 13 bolts, the 45RFE = 15 bolts.

As you probably have the 42RLE you will only have one square filter. The dudes at the parts store are trying to sell you filters for the 45RFE.

Yeah this certain parts person has had an issue with giving me the wrong parts but this time it wasn't here fault. I saw the listings myself an showed that my vehicle should have a 45rle. The 42rle was only listed under the 4cyl. I guess there info is incorrect.
