Waste of Money Questions

I just purchase a new 2009 Liberty Limited and have two questions.

1. Is it best to switch to synthetic oil after reaching the first 3,000 miles?
I will keep the liberty for at lease 6 years and want to keep the engine
In top condition….. is using Synthetic oil a waste of my money?

2. Is it a good idea to purchase the extended warranty from a third party
company that Jeep is offering. The extended warranty goes for an extra
three more years (bumper to bumper) and will cost $1,300..is this a waste?

Thank You for your replies,
bobbarto

I Switched to Mobile 1 5W-20 and Mobile 1 Filter for my piece of mind so i think its worth it. Check ChryslerWarranties. I think their price might be better than that one

Yea that warranty seems high. Mine was $1800 for 7 years/75k miles bumper to bumper.

I've always thought that extended warranties provided by the manufacturer was best for a couple of reasons: no questions about validity at other dealers and I'd be afraid the third party might go out of business (even with Chrylser's problems lately, I don't think they are going out of business soon).

rephrase the questions

I'm not talking about the price of the extended warranty (bumper to bumper).
I'm asking about is it a good idea to purchase the extended warranty since Chrysler has a lifetime powertrain warranty?

Is it best to switch to synthetic oil after reaching the first 3,000 miles?

All thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Just a note. Back in '92 I purchased a new Nissan pickup along with the extended warranty. A few years later, I decided to sell it. After poking around, a salesman told me the warranty was "returnable" if unused. I submitted the paperwork and a few weeks later, received a check for $1,500. Three days later, I sold the truck!! Worked out well for me. Maybe it still works that way. I don't know. Just wanted to let you know.

Price for extended warranty

I got a price for the extended warranty (added care plus) 6 years/70000 miles. With the discount it comes out to $720 with a $50 deductiable per incident, I don't think sales tax is added.
That's not a bad price for an extra 3 years.
I just need to find out what is the difference between added care and maximum care?
Maximum care has Complete Mechanical Coverage for More Than 5,000 Components.

I need to find out how many Mechanical Components does Added care cover.

As far as the synthetic oil question, I'd allow the engine to fully break in before switching to synthetic. It's not uncommon on modern tight-tolerance engines for this process to take 5-10K miles to fully occur.
