Vibration from rear

Wife has a 2007 Jeep Liberty 4X4. She said there is an on and off vibration that seems to come from the rear end of the vehicle. Not constant, as she said, it comes and goes. Is this possibly a brake issue or something possibly more serious such as the rear differential?

Nothing to offer, except that the thread title leaves it wide open for interpretation

Our 2005 crd had the same issue. Ended up being a "bound-up" U-joint. I didn't know a U-joint could get stuck from corrosion. Our vibration was pretty constant at a certain speed and didn't go away until it was fixed.

U-joints are a very common issue on KJ Jeeps. I'd start there.

'05 KJ CRD Limited - 370 lb./ft. from a 4-cylinder and trail ready. Pure awesomeness.

I drove it today. It only happened 2 times to me while driving about 8 miles. Felt exactly like hitting the rumble strip on the side of the freeway only not quite as severe. Both times were within seconds of each other about 1 mile into the drive, then never happened again. I'll check the u-joint though. Thanks for any suggestions.
