Vehicle Computer Issues: 04 Liberty Limited

My computer display (front centre console, where the Course/Temp display is) keeps changing from Metric to US units on its own. I like the Metric units (for the temp anyway) but it seems to just RANDOMLY switch back to US units all by itself.

I had it in last week and the dealer "claims" to have re-connected the wiring because they said there was a loose connection. Yet when I got it back.. not a DAY later it was happening again. It's frustrating because it appears to be random, but I can't figure out what's causing it. The Jeep runs great otherwise.

And NOW the Spare Tire seems to always have low pressure. I've even topped it up to 40 PSI just to make sure. Not sure if this is a related issue, but it's becoming a ROYAL pain.

Any other issues like this? What's the fix? Any help would be much appreciated.

computer

It seems I saw a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on the computer switching problem. Check this with your dealer. Have them check your tire out too.

Can't imagine they messed it up unless you have TPMS (tire pressure readouts) and they were monkeying around with the emitter (part of the valve stem) on your spare. That would be a long shot though.

Ours has switched from US to Metric since we had it as well. Dealer changed out the EVIC module and it did it again 2 days later. I've seen a number of posts on this and I think it must be a common issue that the dealer's can't fix.

My '04 liberty has the same problem with the overhead display...only mine changes to US measurement :-) ! It happends randomly, and if I leave it alone, it will change back and forth between Metric and US.

I don't believe the dealer's fix of finding a loose connection...there is a TSB on this problem and it involves reprogramming the body controller. There are too many instances of the EVIC switching modes.

I have mentioned this problem in this forum a couple of times and others have reported it also. Last Monday, I brought my Liberty in for it's first service at 5000 kms. I told the service writer about the EVIC problem and made him aware of the TSB. They called me at work later in the day...they tried to update the computer but were unsuccessful. My Liberty was built after the 'fix' and the computer would not take the update.

At least it makes a great C/F temperature converter!

Hey OntarioRT- that's a very positive way to look at this! I hadn't thought about it that way.

I had it back in today, and they told me about the TSB. They weren't going to even TRY it because they told me that the TSB only mentioned switching from US to metric, not the other way around. Uh huh.

They did end up reprogramming the controller.

Thanks for all the replies- I hope this fixes the problem!
