Towing problem

I tow an Ifor Williams 505R Horse trailer with my Jeep Liberty (Cherokee) 2004 2.8CRD with automatic transition -

In the beginning everything was fine, recently when towing it feels like the trailer brakes are coming on intermittently when driving - (I have had the trailer checked over and it has come back with a clean bill of health). It is a lot more noticeable when I have the horse on board. I am towing well within the limit (trailer is 1000kg - horse about 650kg)

When not towing everything is fine, revs are constant and there seems to be no problem at all.

Any suggestions as to where to start - unfortunately I am not happy with the prospect of taking it back to the main dealer as have been almost conned over work that didn't need doing before. Someone mentioned checking the rear suspension on the car - but had that dealt with on the recent recall.

Are you using a trailer brake controller on your KJ & 7 pin type plug in the back?

If you mean the brake emergency cable that links to the car, then yes. The plug that goes into the socket I think is either 11 or 7 pin - will have to go to the yard and check.

What I don't understand is that it goes fine with my mechanic's car, not a Jeep though.

Just checked and according to the handbook it's a 7pin
