Towing a Liberty?

Does anyone have any experience towing a liberty? My parents are looking for a smaller 4x4 that they can tow flat behind their RV. The Dealership said that with they could be towed simply by putting the TC in Neutral.

Soon to be installed: Currie Antirock and new radiator

In negotiations with wife for (not going well): rocker guards, front bumper, winch, and full cage

If they get a tow dolly that's all they need to do.

Personally, I would prefer to use a flatbet trailer.

EDIT: Libbies are too heavy to be used on the UHaul towing gear, but you get the idea

YEah, but a flatbed weighs 2000lbs by it self, that is a lot of weight to carry around. I agree though, I would not want to pull it flat or on a dolly.

The Liberty is a highly preferred vehicle to tow behind an RV. The Liberty has a transaxle that fully disconnects in Neutral, so no miles are put on the Odometer and there is less wear and tear to the vehicle powertrain.

I found this in some RV forums when I was researching the Liberty before purchase. I will try and see if I can find where it was....

I believe the dealer gave them the straight skinny.
I haven't towed my Liberty yet, but according to the Owners Manual, all you have to do is shift the TC into neutral and go.

Thanks for that info. How is the drivetrain different than the TJ? Is it a different Trasnfer Case that allows this. I know they offer two, one of which is the same as in the TJ.

Most 4x4 Libbies come with the np231 TC, same one most TJs have stock. An optional TC is the np242 (aka Selec-Trac - full-time in addition to part-time); for purposes of towing same diff -> put the TC in neutral and you're good to go.
