swapped out alternator,engine dies on idle
I just swapped out my alternator in my 2003 jeep liberty. I let it run 5-6 minutes on idle as I cleaned my tools and removed my glove compartment to swap out the blower motor resistor. I shut off the motor, removed the negative battery cable and completed the resistor transplant about 20 minutes later. after putting the car back together, I went to start the motor to check the fan speeds, and now the car will not stay running on at idle. it starts fine, will stay running as long as I give it a little gas. it even let me move the car out of the driveway to the side yard. there are no lights coming on or any other obvious indicator as to why its dying, so i am stumped.
Please let me know what I should check.
This happened to me last summer. I was told to just get driving for a few miles where ya won't have to stop to allow it to reset I guess. Worked out just fine.
When you did the disconnect, it wiped the adaptive strategy for idle and fuel trims. You're going to have to help it idle for a few minutes until it relearns.
