Shift points on a CRD

I never really paid attention at what speeds the CRD shifts at, I was at redlining @ 85 mph, when I hit 86 mph it dialed back to 2300, I'm assuming this is 5th gear? Just curious

During light-footed economical driving, our 2006 CRD will usually fall into fifth gear in lockup somewhere around 50-55mph.

Had our's flat out and it was doing 107 mph. Felt soild and no twiching, it really supprised me as figured it would flakey above 80 or 85 mph. It topped out about 10 mph better then what I would have guessed it would.

PS: I wasn't watching the tach.

Top speed

When Car and Driver tested the CRD, they got it up to 111 mph.

I may have had a small amount of head wind. I might have coaxed a little more out the thing, but didn't try. Actually I though it had another 3 or 4 mph in it, but didn't think it was worth the effort.

The title of the thread is shift points yet people are talking about terminal velocity?

Redline 3-4 shift should be around 93 mph, 4-5 around 109.

Note, however, that your spedometer gets increasingly optimistic with increasing speeds. I don't remember what exactly the % offset is, I think it's around 2-4% fast.

Oh God no! This is a flashback to my BMW motorcycle days...BMW spedos are almost all 10% off. It says 66 -- you're doing 60. Even though everyone I know has complained to various dealers, BMW corporate says its legal...spedos are allowed to be off by 10% low, but can not be high. Many many conversations about this.

Based on my GPS, my spedo is dead on at 65. I've never tried a reading at terminal velocity.

Mine was by GPS and is why I didn't look the rpm gage. Next time I get the CRD, probably Saturday, I will write down the GPS readings at 50, 60, 70 and maybe 80 mph for all here to see.
