Shift indicator lamp

My shift indicator lamp has been out for quite a while so being bored today I finally decided to replace bulb. After spending a half an hour pulling the center console out to gain access to where the bulb is I went to my local Jeep dealer to pick up the bulb. The old bulb was bad when I took it out so I expected that the new bulb would do the trick. Well the new one doesn't light either and I checked the fuse and it's good because everything on that circuit is working. Anyone have any ideas as to what else could be the problem.

light bulb replacement

You don't have to remove the console, just pop out the fake chrome cover, and carefully unsnap the black cover. Then just remove all the little pieces, there is like a paper piece, then a clear plastic piece that is over the bulb. I found a 2721 bulb seemed to work fine. Dealer in my town said they only sold the entire
Its a little wedge bulb, just lift it straight out. Replace. All happy again.
