ScanGauge II

Does anybody have the ScanGauge II to monitor your vehicle performance, trip info mileage real time? I don't have the OEM comp so I thought this would be an easy and cool add on.

Reads Trouble Codes
Reads conditions that set the Trouble Code
Clears Trouble Codes
Turns off the "Check Engine" light
Tells you when vehicle is "Ready" to pass OBDII testing
Make and store up to 10 rewritable special codes
to send to the vehicle computer
Fuel Economy
Fuel Rate
Battery Voltage
Coolant Temperature
Intake Air Temperature
Engine Speed (RPM)
Vehicle speed (MPH/KMH)
Manifold Pressure (not available on some vehicles)
Engine Load
Throttle Position
Ignition Timing
Open/Closed Loop
Maximum Speed
Average Speed
Maximum Coolant Temperature
Maximum RPM
Driving Time
Driving Distance
Fuel Used
Trip Fuel Economy
Distance to Empty
Time to Empty
Fuel to Empty
How do you like it?

Given the gas prices, I figure this would be good to get. Any feedback?

I have it and it works well. only problem I had was that the backlight went out after 6 months, the manufacturer replaced it free of charge.

I have had one on my '06 Liberty CRD for about a year now. Once in a while it goes into "chip cramp" and freezes up. Found that it froze up less frequently if I set it to slow refresh. There are some of the CRD owners that think that the scanguage causes the tranny contol module to have a seizure once in a while and cause a sudden jerk that will definately shock you into reality. I am not so sure that the scanguage is causing the problem... not enough evidence yet.

I still use it and like it. It is probably one of the best investments you can make. It is just plain cool having it and reading all the values that you don't have guages for.

Cow, I thought it doesn't work for the CRD per their website:

WORKS ON ALL EXCEPT: 2004.5 through 2005 Dodge Diesel Trucks.

Jeep Liberty with the diesel engine does not report fuel use or trip functions and some of the gauges. Unless the recall ECU software update has been completed.

2005 WORKS ON ALL EXCEPT: 2004.5 through 2005 Dodge Diesel Trucks.

Lotus Elise

Jeep Liberty with the diesel engine does not report fuel use or trip functions and some of the gauges. Unless the recall ECU software update has been completed.

2006 WORKS ON ALL EXCEPT: Lotus Elise

Jeep Liberty with the diesel engine does not report fuel use or trip functions and some of the gauges. Unless the recall ECU software update has been completed.

2007 WORKS ON ALL EXCEPT: Lotus Elise

Jeep Liberty with the diesel engine does not report fuel use or trip functions and some of the gauges. Unless the recall ECU software update has been completed.

That tranny seizure would scare me if it did something to the KJ comp!!! do you have more info on this?

I just got mine just today for my gas KJ and hooked it up to my GM cross-over AWD vehicle and it gave me my last trouble code which has been pissing me off for ages. We don't have Autozones or stores that read and clear that stuff where I am at.

I need to play with it more but it tells me the "FUEL USED" trip info, max speed, mpg , fuel mileage, rpms pressures, temps etc...

I also like the battery voltage as I have another car in storage which I keep trying to run to keep the battery alive so I will use it to check on that car too and also the idle rates etc.

I want to test some stuff like gas mileage with my roof rack/ski racks on vs off and also compare against my GPS unit when it states shortest distances.
Also one thing it advertised was you can see a difference on a pick up truck w/ the gate up or down.... lets see this on the KJ comparing mileage for use with racks and w/o and also different tires ie. snows vs AT vs all seasons, 16" vs 17" wheels, tire pressure, air filters etc.

I gotta read the manual and find out what other things this will tell me. I was hoping to see what true HP the 3.7 actually puts out but I don't think it does that

Not sure if we are allowed to hotlink but just kill the space after www.

www. scangauge.com/support/pdfs/SGMan5_0.pdf

It seems like a cool add-on and for the $$, I like the gadgets and added info. It does not require extra power source ie. cig adapter as it draws from the OBDII port.

For the $$$, I think a good portable GPS is more practical for travelling around and off roading but if you want more info on your vehicle and it's performance, it is a great cheap add-on. Plug and play. I gotta hook it up on the KJ and may get another for the other vehicles once I get a better assesment.

Screen is very basic but I don't think there is anything else like this on the market. I wish it did more ie. color screen, GPS, bluetooth sync to my cell, able to modify the CPU, back up camera and tire pressure monitoring but it will be allot more LOL

I went to the UK page and even found these cool toys for racers where you can graph real time your performance:

www. gtechpro.net/

(just kill the space after www.)

maybe someone else can chime in on the alleged tranny problem being caused by the scanguage. It has been discussed a little at the LostKJ website, but not with any major detail. That is why I am not totally convinced that the scanguage is the problem. A lot of CRD's have experienced tranny problems along with other little quirks that I have never experienced with mine. Not sure if there are really any major problems that are not somewhat driver related. Trying to drive a diesel like a gasser will sometimes cause these problems.

Well, regarding all the features of the scanguage, I don't use all the trip related features anyway. For that I just use the EVIC. I use the scanguage primarily for amps, water temp, manifold pressure, and engine load. I will sometimes switch the gauges to see other values, I also use it to clear out the CEL thrown by having the MAF sensor unplugged to reduce the amount of EGR being used by the engine (better known as the Off Road Modification). Yet, it will still read any other codes that may come up (only been one... that was for a vacuum line to the turbo). I have never trusted any display whether it be scanguage, cummins road relay in my previous semi, etc when it comes to fuel usages and such. I have found they are always off from good ol manual calculations. I just use the fuel gauge to let me know when I need fuel. I have never trusted any ECM to accurately tell me how many more miles I can go on fuel. Too many variables.

I like it for what I use it for.

I sent mine back. It does not work on an 06 crd unless you can find a way to reprogram the computer. It will constantly throw codes, the very thing you were trying to avoid.
The web site does confirm this. I should have checked this before buying.

Well, I guess I will hold on to mine. They must have screwed up my unit as it works fine on my '06 CRD.

Oh well.... dodged that bullet.

Can you get "Boost pressure" or Trans temp, or your scangauge?
I have one in my 2000 Liberty and was thinking about moving it over to my 2006 CRD. I have the GRD Eco-tune in my CRD.

Thanks: Bob

I have a scanguage II in my KJ (3.7L) and it works fine. Had it for 3+ years or so now. I have taken it out and put it in the car once or twice and it worked fine, then put it back in the KJ. No problems. You can see it in the pic. (was in 4lo getting 0.7mpg...haha)
