Replaceable CV Joint $70

Hello Jeep Forum members,

This is my first post on this site. The CV joint at the t case of my liberty makes too much noise to keep on driving. I thought about going the u joint driveshaft route from alldriveline.com but I figured Chrysler used a CV joint for a reason and I don't want any vibrations. Instead I decided I'll just get a new or reman OEM driveshaft. Well I'm sure most of you have been down that road, not cheap.

Luckily after some searching I found this...

CV Joints & Shafts - Jeep - Jeep Driveshaft CV-joint - Driveshaft Parts

I ordered one up and if you want I can to an install post with pics also

Hope this helps some other Jeepers out there

Does anybody know if this is a viable alternative to replacing the drive shaft? I'm going to need to replace my drive shaft soon and I would rather replace the CV joint instead for the money. Any opinions?

Yes that is exactly the reason I posted this thread. My CV joint went also and I am doing this because I don't want to spend another $400 for a new driveshaft. I ordered one and got it in the mail today, looks pretty good. I'll do the install soon and let you know how it turns out.

No need to replace the entire drive shaft when a $65 part will fix the issue. With shipping the CV joint is still less than $80. And it's the same amount of work to take out the drive shaft so you're not really saving any time.

Check out the How-To section at JeepKJCountry.com. There's a good tutorial with pics on replacing the CV joint at the transfer case end.

Note: Re-use the bolts that are on the original CV to attach it to the transfer case yoke. The Allen-head bolts that come with the kit are a good idea but the angle and close proximity of the drive shaft to the CV make it really tough to get any leverage with an Allen wrench. Stick with the 8mm factory bolts.

Are the front joints prone to failure, or just the rear. The rear joint on ours is shot, but I was toying with the idea of just buying the shaft for $135.
