RB 1 vs RB 4

I presently have the RB4 nav radio installed in my '04 Libby with Sirius. I am really curious as to the pros and cons of the RB1 or for all that matters, the differences between the RB1 and the RB4. I really like the option to play a CD every once in a while without losing the availability of the nav radio.

Comments please?

That's the advantage ov the RB4. On the RB1, you have to have a remote CD changer if you want to play your CD while navigating. I bought an RB1 because of the single DVD, map display, trail feature and larger screen. My neighbor has the RB4 and gets better altitude info, at least here. They are made by different companies using different technologies; even operate off different satellite systems using different antennas. But they work very similarly. They are both excellent units.

RB4 is made by Harmon Kardon and the RB1 is made by Alpine. I was looking at getting the RB1 but have a question. Does the DVD feature play DVD movies? If not then what's difference if the NAV feature reads from a CD map or a DVD map?

It doesn't play movies, I heard there are mods out there but they're really expensive. Major advantage with RB1 is it has a map instead of just arrows. Which from what I hear is a huge advantage. Although I'm torn between playing a cd while using navigation. I still haven't decided what I'm doing.

I have the RB1. The avantage one advantage of the RB4 is you can pull out the DVD and play a CD once your route has been entered. However after thinking about this, I never want to take out the DVD, cause if I were to scratch it, it's big $$$ to replace. So for my RB1 I ordered the 6 disc changer for the back. I have Sirius and the RB1 shows the artist names and song (once I get the 6 disc changer installed), I don't know if the RB4 does this?

The single DVD (RB1) contains about 6.9GB of data. I suppose that necessitated the DVD technology. Don't know how much data the CD version (RB4) holds. This may possibly relate as to why the RB1 has a map function and the RB4 doesn't.

The map is definitely nice. You can change the scale from street size to (don't actually know -- have only gone up to county size). It also orients you on the map and you can see what's around you (lakes, parks, gas stations, etc). It highlights your projected route -- you can even see the upcomming bends in the road, hairpins, etc. It moves in real time as you move, not like a screen refresher.

The DVD is all over ebay for like 40 bucks.
