Supposed to suppress EMF (electrical) noise so you do not get interference from the spark plugs, alternator mainly but also from exterior interference such as power lines.

It is there for a reason!

2002 2.5 Export CRD Manual 5 speed.

okay thanks I just bought a pair of amps and wanted to plug them in to check them out. I suppose it would be okay if I did just temporarily without the radio choke. I'll have to see if I can find a choke, my Jeep is a sport model with the base model radio.

do you think the base model speakers can handle the amp?

Probably not at high power. the stock system speakers have a tendency for moisture problems also, so keep this in mind when you replace them.

When the pavement ends, you better have some ground clearance!
