SUBJECT: RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL SERVICE ACTION # 06-038
Power Window Motor(s) Seized
INVOLVED VEHICLES: 2006 (KJ) Liberty
NOTE: The VIN List is available on DealerCONNECT for all affected dealers. The
VIN List has been inserted in the Service Tab under Rapid Response
Transmittals. The dealers receiving the Rapid Response Transmittal Service
Action are the “Ship To” dealers and the VIN’s listed are specific to their
dealership.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
A number of vehicles may have been shipped with a seized power window motor(s)
DIAGNOSIS:
1. Place the ignition key in run position, DO NOT start the engine.
2. Cycle each window individually from full up to full Down; continue to energize the
regulator for 2 seconds after impacting the Down stop.
3. Return window to full up position.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3, three times.
5. If all windows cycle normally, Diagnosis is complete and no further action is
required, otherwise continue to step 6.
6. Leave the key in run position. Verify all accessories are off i.e., radio, lights etc.
7. Place an inductive amp meter over the positive battery cable. Record amperage
draw.
8. Cycle the window that did not cycle normally and measure amperage draw.
9. Subtract measured amperage draw in step 8 from the amperage draw measured in
step 7. If the difference exceeds 6.5 amps then perform the Repair Procedure. If
the difference is less than 6.5 amps, motor operation is not the issue and this
Service Action does not apply.
10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for all windows that did not cycle normally.
