Oil Help!!!

Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I just changed the oil in my jeep for the first time and might have made a big mistake. I accidentally used 5w-20 instead of the recommended 5w-30. Am I going to destroy my engine?? HELP!!

Dom

Naaw, you're fine. There is a little difference between the two, but actual viscocity they are very close. Next time put 5w30 in. You're in cheeseland, it doesn't get real hot up there in summer anyways.

5w20 is more a winter oil. My local jeep Dealership used the stuff for their oil changes during the winter when I used to take her in. Like you I change mine now, just use a good filter and change it at regular intervals. If the oil is conventional change at 3000 miles, synthetic change around 5000 (some push it to 10000) etc etc. 5w20, 5w30, and 10w30 are all options many use depending on situations.

You will be fine just go back to 5w30 the next time you do an oil change.
