New Liberty - abnormal engine noise? *Video*

Okay, you guys tell me: is the clicking sound normal? I hear none of that with my other car, bearing my other car isn't a Jeep. Is this a Jeep thing or is something wrong? Keep in mind the car is brand new (2008). Only have 50 miles on her.

The sound isn't the greatest in this video, but hopefully you can discern what I'm taking about: http://sharing.theflip.com/session/e3ca992b7ab9bf3d3f08693e9914fa43/video/2472847

While heard throughout, the noise I speak of is best distinguished in the last few seconds of the video.

i do not hear any ticking on your video, does not sound like a new jeep to me ether. fuel injectors on multi-port injection(presto injecters) motor tic/click when they actavate often mistaken as valves ticking because they are so close to each other.

Why do you say it doesn't sound like a new Jeep?

I'll try and take a better sound recording today, but you can definitely hear it in that video.

i think it's very normal, the same sound appears on my 08 liberty too. nothing involved poor performance or anything, i mean it sure does happen to my new jeep.

has a lumpy idle like it has a big cam or a turbo muffler. i would think a new stock gas engine would run smooth. a slight exaust leak near the motor will cause a tick also. my crd idles smoother than that, well when good and warm anyway.

I would recommend you take it to a body shop, NOT the dealer (yet). And let them tell you if anything IS wrong with it. After you find out what is wrong, if there is anything at all, then take it to the dealership, and tell them what is wrong, and and what needs to be fixed. This should be an easy fix. Good luck!

Good idea because I'm sure the dealer would just say it's normal. I'll see if there are any Jeep body shops around here and take it by.

That reminds me of the time that I had this HUGE leak in the front window, and I took it to the dealership. They tell me that I must cracked it when I was scrapping ice off the windshield. The reason this was not a possibility was because of 3 reasons:

A) It was mid-July
B) The KJ was but a mere 2 months old
and C) The KJ was made during the spring of 2007... therefore it has NEVER experienced a winter!!

After I told him this, he replied by saying, "Sir, I feel threatened by your presents."

WHAT??!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Yes I know, we have some of the crappiest dealerships in the WORLD!! But seriously, man? Really?

Well after I chewed out his boss for almost an hour, the guy got fired. It was very relaxing, AND they fixed my window. After the window guy finished, he told me that the only reason my window was even staying in place was because it had a little bit of superglue in each corner.. "what?" Yes, it is was just a replacement window, and could have fallen out at any given moment.

I was so close to suing. However, I didn't. Who knows, I might need to use my warranty in the future. Haha!

This is why i ALWAYS go somewhere else BEFORE I take it to the dealership. These guys are terrible!

What was the temperature? What weight oil are you using?

I find that my 3.7 ticks with 10w-30 oil when I first start it up on those cold mornings. Its fine with 5w-30.

My 20008 has also ticked since it was brand new last year, and it now has 5700 miles on it. The dealer told me it was normal. The ticking has remained the same and the performance isn't bad or anything so I haven't tried to make them fix mine. I figure its worse to have the dealer take the valve train apart than to put up with the tick.

I can't tell because the audio on your video is muffled, but mine is pretty loud metallic tick at idle.

Um, I hate to tell you this because it's probably not what you want to hear...
I'm not a dealer nor do I work for one...

But I've had way too many 3.7Ls in my family (two were mine) and they all sound exactly the same way, and have from 0-60k miles.

Normal. Trust me on this....

You're not the only one concerned about the 3.7L Tick. I've seen this topic on various sites before and I have, and several others have given the same answer each time...

Not the answer I want to hear? No, that is the answer I want to hear! If it's normal, great, no problem. I just want to make sure it's not a warning signal that the big "ka-put" is coming.
