Need help finding a good ground in an 04 Liberty

I'm trying to get an FM Modulator working cleanly, and everything is installed and functioning, but it sounds like crap. There's so much noise it's ridiculous. I don't think I've got a clean ground. I tried the steel seat mount, and one of the door mounting bolts, but both spots are either paint-covered or touching carpet or rubber.

I was told I need metal to the frame, and something without paint and without any interruption in continuity to the frame. I'm having trouble finding that, and I'm having trouble finding a way to get through the firewall to the plethora of grounds in the engine bay.

I don't want to splice into the pre-existing wiring's ground.

Anyone got a good ground in the interior, or a good idea for me? Please?

Depending where you are tying to find the ground at the seats and/or seat belt bolting locations should be a good ground as they should go to the frame. In my 04 the bolts are metric (at least for the back seat is = 10mm for some and 15mm for the larger ones, with the studs being 18mm (i think). You can always sand the area around the bolt head so you get good "no-pain" contact. I took out rear seat to install seat cover and it was fairly simple.

Your best bet is going though the fire wall and setting your ground on the chasis nut and bolt rod. It is on the drivers side just off of the break fluid tank. It is sticking out, you can't miss it.

I have everything grounded to that spot and have no issues with engin noise and other interfreance

Just run the wire to your kick pannel, remove the kick so you can see the metal. use a wire brush or something metal to scrape away a patch of paint to bare metal. then use a ring terminal and a self tapping screw and screw it down. works great and thats how ground most of the times when I install stuff.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

I finally got another chance to work on it, and came back to check this post in case anyone else had replied. The kick panel was a snap, and only took about 20 minutes to do the whole thing. It made a HUGE improvement. I only get a little bit of noise now (grrr) when I actually power-up the XM with the cigarette lighter adapter. I'm not sure what to do about that. I'm afraid a loop isolator on the modulator would be useless for that.

Anyway...thanks!
