My Jeep Liberty is stuck in 'Part Time' - Help!?

I have a Liberty 2003 and I needed to use 4 wheel drive last night to get it out of a snow bank, but when I shifted out of 4 wheel drive, there is a light on my dashboard saying 'Part Time'. Im assuming that Im still stuck in a gear though it looks like I cant shift any further down....how do i get that light to disappear??

I used to have a 2003 Liberty with a similar problem. Sometimes it was due to a low tire and other times it was due to being too cold. Check the tires to make sure they are all inflated properly and with a warm Libby, try shifting out of Part-time. Sometimes I had to drive off road or over a curb to get it to kick out of Part-time.
Hope this takes care of it for you!

Cold or warm, it shouldnt matter. The 231 and 242 transfer cases can be picky sometimes and like to be shifted a certain way. Assuming your handle is back 2wd, Your best bet is to get moving DEAD straight, at about 10mph with your foot off of the gas, Leave the transmission in drive and shift it into 4hi, give it a little bit of gas and let back off. Then move the shifter back down into 2wd and give it a little gas again. If the light does not go out right away, come to a complete stop and put the transmission in reverse, back up about 30 feet and see if it clicks out.

It may be just the switch for the TC case indicator has malfunctioned.

I had similar issue with my 05, the part-time light illuminated when in 2wd and when shifting to part-time it would go out. It turned out to be the sensor switch on transfer case..good luck

Fix it

I found a guy selling the sensor on ebay for $40, free shipping. It was a Mopar part too. Light drove me nuts. People said it was easier to remove the console to replace the switch. I got my 2003 Renegade in the air and had plenty of room to get it off and replace, took about 20 mins and no more light. The sensor caused a code too so I cleared that. All happy again. I could tell the old sensor was sticky.

It sits on top of the transfer case, underneath the vehicle.
