he has a 06 liberty... we went wheelin and in 4 high it was all great.... but in 4 low, it kept popping into neutral... the jeep has only 1000 miles on it, and today was first day ever using it... should he take it back? or should he let it go for now and try later? i told him take it back

Not necessarily. You have to pull back pretty hard to get it all the way into 4lo. When you pull the lever it engages the gears in the transfer case. If it's not all the way in, it might work for a minute and then pop out. Think about what happens if you don't engage the gears all the way on a bicycle. Same thing only on a larger scale.

If you were driving aroung with it in 4low for alittle while THEN it popped out, the lever linkage may need to be adjusted. If it just popped back out as soon as you put it in, then your not doing it right.
Its best to be rolling 2-3mph with the tranny in N to engage 4low. If you are stuck and need 4low, put the tranny into N then pull back on the lever and go to 4low. While pulling back on the lever, put the tranny into D and it should pop right in. Keeping holding back on it and drive forward, then let off and it should stay in.. :thumbsup:
