Mobile 1 Oil Change Intervals

Hey there,

How often are you guys changing your synthetic oil? I'm using Mobile 1 Extended Performance, with a Mobile 1 filter. I'm changing it around 5,500 miles on average. I'm up to 136,xxx and she still purrs like a young cat. I do not trust the 15,000 mile interval on the Mobile 1 bottle, but was curious about your guy's best practices.

Have a good one!

I used to do the change around 5k miles with the Mobil one full synthetic. I also always used a purolator pure one filter.

I'm doing about the same.. It would be interesting to send off a UOA and see how things are holding up. Realistically though I just change it twice a year regardless of mileage (not much).

Oil Analysis

Hello, +1 on the oil analysis. It's the only way to know. Judging by the "look of things" in the '05 (132K) I've just began maintaining and the '99 XJ I took care of for 91 months, I wouldn't be surprised if conventional oil could last 7,500 miles or if Mobil1 E.P. could go to 10,000. I'd use the 5K OCI for conventional and 7,500 for a good synthetic if it was my Liberty. I used conventional oil in the '99 XJ with 5K OCI's. The valve train was clean as a whistle when I did the VC gasket. I've used the factory recommended 7,500 in two V70's (>180K) using synthetic. No dirt there either. Kira

5000 miles...no need to stretch it longer. Cheap insurance in my opinion.

Same oil and same filter,it get's changed every 1500 miles.Which is 6 months for me as there is also a time limit not just a mileage limit.

5000mi on full synthetic will get you a long way down the road tjkj2002 has one of the most unique KJ's ever put together and if I had one like that I would probably do the same thing!!!

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and Mobil filter on my gf's liberty and change at 6k. That is the interval I use on my truck as well.

As stated, oil test is really the only way to be sure. Always wanted to do that but forget to capture the oil during a change

Castrol syntec every 5k, used to use Mobil 1 in my wrx and it burned off a lot more. I think a good filter is more of a key component than type of oil

Amsoil 0w-30 Severe Duty and Amsoil filter. Change oil every 20,000 and filter every 10,000. Oil changes are more expensive (around $120) but it is nice to not have to do it but once a year.

Have done this on the last dozen or so vehicles I have owned and they all go into the 200,000 mile range without issue. This is also the oil change schedule for the police fleet I oversee.

It was interesting to see the Texas Highway Patrol also switch to this schedule a few years back, and have fewer engine issues.

I'll take your guy's advice and send off the oil for an analysis. I've always wanted to do that anyhow, so this will be a good excuse.

100% highway driving that maybe okay but not for your daily driver.Plus 0w-30 is not a good choice for the KJ's 3.7 as it will burn it and you'll be dry before 5k.Plus amsoil, well most of there oils, are not even certified to be run in our engines or any other engine.

I usually agree with you Troy but I am sure amsoil is an ok oil as good as any other (no better-no worse).

As to using the 0-30 weight oil, I agree as factory spec preferred in the KJ owners manual states "5w30 preferred". (the engineers made the engine and feel that is the correct spec so I guess they know more than I do about building/designing engines so I go by that)

Anyway, back to topic of the oil change interval, I am changing mine between 4,500-5,000 miles using synthetic and purolator pure one filters. Mostly due to my convenience which is once in the spring and again in the fall with my pre-winter maintenance so I don't have to mess with anything in the freezing cold....haha. I havn't noticed any problems but havn't had an oil analysis done either. But that's what I do.
