Low Roaring Noise when Accelerating going 30-40-50-60 mph ???

Can someone help me? I have a 2006 Jeep Renegade that just turned over 130,000 miles. We only put it in Low and reverse to give a little help to my Dad's pickup when he was trying to pull a boat onto a trailer. It was just for a second or 2, but then after that, the "Part Time" light went on, even after it was taken out of "Low". I drove it that way for a while, but it concerned me that it would cause issues, so my husband had it put on a computer and a sensor showed that it needed to be installed, so he did that and the Part Time light went off. Unfortunately, RIGHT around that time, when I would be driving and accelerating it to go from 30-40-50-60 mph (I drive 30 minutes back and forth to work, all highway miles), the engine would seem like it would "roar" loudly, like you can't even hear the radio at a normal level without turning it up. It happens constantly and I've noticed my gas mileage has gone down the toilet, and also the RPM indicator (tachometer?) also fluctuates a bit weirdly. HELP ? In trying to research this, someone mentioned torque converter, but it doesn't seem correct. I don't want to keep driving it if this is going to cause more issues and end up shelling my automatic transmission. I'm just sick about this, as it was running perfectly ALL before we went to help my Dad that day, for just a few seconds putting it in Low and then in reverse. Then all these problems started. Help?

You didn't accidentally click the overdrive off did you? That would make it run at a higher RPM
Which transfer case do you have? What letters show on the transfer case lever?
