losing coolant

2003 jeep liberty renegade
my jeep is losing coolant. i am going to look for the leak, but thats not the weird thing. the engine is running hot, however the temp gauge reads normal. could this be coolant sensor, or thermstat? also can a blown thermo gasket leak?

I dont know what would be causingit though, I had to replace my thermostat not too long ago, its not as cheap as they used to be though lol it cost me $23 for a new thermostat whereas my camaro was $5
