Looking at a CRD saw this sticker... *PIC*

Hey guys, it's been a long time since my last post here but I'm looking at buying an '06 CRD Sport 4x4 w/59k on the clock. For reference, I used to own a '00 XJ Classic so I'm not new into Jeeps. They are my second passion after air-cooled V-dubs.

The KJ I'm looking at is super clean and drives out real nice. The only problem I can find with it is the driver's window doesn't want to roll up straight unless you hold it from rolling up crooked. No biggie I'm sure.

Anyway, I found this sticker about the TCM reprogram under the hood and was wondering about it...

What does this mean? Is it something I should be concerned about or maybe part of a recall or something?

Thanks in advance!

It was a recall, it had to do with make the ECU compatible with after market scan tools, no biggie, both of mine had it done too. If you want a CRD, go for it, they are collectors items. I always shake my head, when I read the bad fuel mileage threads that the 3.7L owners post. I want to tell them they should have gotten a CRD, but I don't want to rub any salt into their wounds. I am getting MPGs in the high 20s to low 30s. I love my CRDs

PS, Nice XJ you got.

See the only issue I have with diesel is that its not too common around my area. I would have to drive pretty far for fuel when I needed it, and the extra planning when taking a trip would be a pain. But I do admit a chipped, exhaust, intake 4x4 diesel libby does sound pretty nice.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I made them an offer over the phone last night and of course, they want me to come in. I know this game since I used to sell cars. Unfortunately, I don't have time to play games with them due to my schedule. We'll see if they bite.

Good luck! Seems everytime I go to a stealership to buy a car it ends up being a whole day ordeal, and I mean morning to night. The wife and I are stubborn as hell and eventually they give in somewhat.

See Im not dissatisfied at all with the power from my liberty. Around town it has more then enough grunt to carry me, some passengers and a ton of gear. Its the highway pull that's kinda weak. But then again I'm working on that with my birthday and Christmas coming up soon.

I picked up an 06 loaded CRD Limited with 19K on the clock. It is one of my favorite vehicles. It tows like a V8 yet gets MPG in the 30's on the highway, even while towing my boat.

The CRDs also have the 5-speed automatic which is a much nicer unit than the 4 speed. To give you an idea of how quick these things are, I was side by side with a new V8 Tahoe that wanted to cut me off. We both floored it from 20 MPH and I just walked away from him. He was really pissed. It reminded me of the old song by the playmates, "beep beep" where a Nash Rambler blew off a Caddy.

Among my other vehicles, I have a 3.7L gas Nitro with a 6-speed manual, headers, Flowmaster and chip. The Nitro has more HP on the top end, but does not tow anywhere as nicely as the CRD. When towing, the CRD feels like a tractor.

BTW the sound of the turbo spooling up is also nice.

The CRD's are a lot more than most people (that have not drove one) know.

Power, towing, economy are way ahead of of other rigs that are supposed to in the same category. And if your willing to play with them a bit, they are even better. One of the funest vehicles that has ever landed in my driveway.

I believe there is a 06 Lt Khaki 17K miler for sale in Billings MT that was on Auto Trader yesturday. Kinda pricey though.

The only issue I have with owning a diesel is the availability and price of fuel in my area. If it were as available as gas and not inflated a bit things would be different.

Are you saying there are no diesel pumps or truck stops in your area - or that you don't like that diesel is a bit more expensive than gas ? There is always less diesel pumps than gas, thats pretty normal anywhere - but it is worth it to get 30 to 35 mpg highway on ULSD than 19 to 21 on unleaded. 300+ ft lbs of torque is also kinda enjoyable.

Lol yeah in my city I am 95% sure there are 0 diesel pumps. I have to drive 10 miles to get to a known pump sadly. I really do wish that America would realize what the rest of the world does in that you can have better power, better fuel mileage and cleaner emissions then hybrids with a modern diesel. But unfortunately when Americans think of diesels they think of huge exhaust stacks pumoping out gobs of black smoke...

That really stinks. I may have to count myself lucky to be in a ag related part of the country. Many regular gas stations here have diesel, although I prefer to fuel at the busier truck stops.

So there probably are not too many diesel pickups or TDI VW's in your town. Very large PITA. But being a little stubborn, it's a good chance I'd drive the 10 miles.

See there are a ton of diesel trucks in our area due to my county being mostly rural. But the town I live in is mostly hippie so its all about hybrids and small Japanese cars. But like I said a few miles down the road every gas station has diesel, not terrible but having to drive 10miles to fill up kinda sucks.

When you get a CRD you will be wanting to drive them 10 miles, who know, maybe you can get the hippies to help you out with biodiesel, FREE FUEL! Just tell the hippies they can help save the planet from you soot spooing Diesel
