Looking for confirmation on Tires and Rims for 02 Lib

I have a 2002 Liberty Sport V6 4WD with around 245,000 miles on it.
It's my daily driver and I do about 75 miles a day on it, mostly highway. I live in a pretty rural area so I do drive on rutted dirt roads and rough mountain roads at times but not frequently.

I have the dreaded (as I take from comments here in the forum) 215/75/16s on it now and need new tires. I would like to try 235/70/16s now. My main question is, if I do this, do I need new rims? The current rims are the stock ones.
Would 225s be a better option? I have browsed through other tire questions but hope to get confirmation and any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

stock rims are fine actually some models came with 235-70-16s as stock size, mine did as a matter of fact

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, based on a previous tire question I looked at the sticker on the bottom of the glove box and saw the three tire sizes listed as opposed to only the 215s noted on the door.

Even though I have the ugly peeling stock rims, no corrosion cause its the high desert, they suit me fine. Also getting new rims on top of 5 new tires was an expense I need to consider.

I actually managed to squeeze 265-70-16 tires on my stock rims.

7 inch wide rim is all you need on any tire you can run on a KJ
