Liberty Transmission and Transfer Case Question! Shopping for a Liberty!

I am shopping around for a new vehicle and was wonder what the difference was between the two auto transmissions, What is the 42RLE transmission? What is the VLP 42RLE?

Also what is the difference between the Command Trac and the Select Trac?

Does one of them come with an limited slip differential?

I have been looking for about two days (on line) for a liberty that fits just right and have found one that is kind of close but the deal breaker is the differentials, if it has a limited slip then I will probably go and look at it, if it dosen't I am going to keep looking around until I find one.

What do you guys think of this one?

I am looking for one that is as capable off road as a liberty can be because I live rather far out in the county and need limited slips (or lockers) especially in the winter time. But I drive about 39 to 40 miles (one way) to work 5 to 6 days a week so I need it to last and be reliable while doing it.

In the winter, if you have snow and ice you don't want lockers if you want to stay on the road, LSD are ok, but opens are better yet. The ESP traction control system on the '06 rigs does a pretty good job of finding traction as it applies braking on the slipping side which helps put traction to a side that has the better grip. LSD like the Detroit TrueTrac seem to be the best setup front and rear with the ESP system for max traction off road. The earlier rigs came with a DC limited slip in the rear sometimes, my '05 CRD has it.

The difference between the VLP42RLE and the non-VLP42RLE is a software difference they are all going to VLP.
The 06 KJ's with ABS/ESP do not have a limited slip option as wheel speed is controlled through the ABS system as a traction control system, but the one you have listed does have the trailer tow and off road packages so you will be good to go.
Limited slips are not an option anymore for the KJ.
Command trac is a part time only transfer case and the Select trac has a full time 4wd option.

Thanks guys for laying this out, I have been unmercilessly scouring the Jeep dealers and can not find a Liberty with the Selec trac transfer case, can I not get it on a Liberty Renegade?
