Some CRDs have build dates as late as March of this year. I wouldn't call that EARLY. The 2006 CRD IS the cleanest diesel to date by Jeep. Mine doesn't put out any smoke like those mosquito foggin trucks I have seen, and just BARELY failed the new test standards. Don't look for them to be much better because they can't be. Just more of them.

Clarification...

BlueTec has NOT been approved by the EPA yet.

The 3.0L CRD engine in the Grand Cherokee does not have this capability. It will however come with a particulate filter.

You should rejoyce, you can now be rid of the ST's without feeling guilty for throwing away tires that had usable tread.

I'm at a little over 18K, and working through a lot of issues. Still on the original EGR & anti-shudder valve.

My CRD has a bit over 31K miles. I have had the EGR replaced under warranty, along with a flash or two the dealer did as per Jeep's changes. Otherwise mine has been flawless. I have a few modifications, and look forward to a few more. I enjoy the great fuel economy and drivability of this Jeep.

I'm at 26K on my CRD 05. Just replaced ERG valve. I'm also getting 25 miles /US gallon. I live in Quebec Canada with low sulfur diesel.

Why did they stop making them? We just got one, but I'm curious.

Not to mention that it's too expensive to make them pass.

Remember, anything can be made to work... sometimes the effort just isn't worth the "cost".

Just wondering are the new 07 diesels going to pass California emmissions?

The MB 3.0L is a newer and cleaner engine than the VM 2.8L.

And, considering that a CRD WK/XK is gonna cost $40k+ they can justify fancy things like regenerative particulate filters that they couldn't on a CRD KJ that costs a little more than half that.

I just read an article in Diesel Power magizne ( oct 2006 page 29) It says

" But don't fret too much over the demise of the 2.8L CRD when Liberty is redesigned for 2008, a diesel will likely be on tap. "

I am not holding my breath though.
