KK CB/Antenna Mount
Anybody have a CB Radio in their KK? If so, explain or post pics of your setup. What have you got? Where did you mount the CB? The antenna?

I'm trying to figure out where to mount one on my KJ.

Numerous possibilities exist for mounting. The first that comes to mind is a magnetic mount that is removeable, and where the coax can run through a slightly open window.
As long as height is not a problem, the next place would be off the roof rail or rack using a loaded shrortie or firestick. Coax, well that's another story. Similar to the Kj's where the radio antenna is mounted, you could put one on the passenger side fender. I just carry a 3 watt Am 40 channel hand held. |

I guess I'm spoiled. I had it mounted to the back bumper of my TJ/Wrangler and an antenna looked natural on the back of my Crown Vic Police Interceptor. I just can't seem to find a good place to mount one on the KJ. Magnetic mount on the bumper like the TJ won't work since the KJ bumpers are plastic. Mounting to the rough via magnetic or bolt down puts way too much height to the vehicle. Looks like I'll have to fabricate something. Sounds like there might be a market for it.

If you want one off the rear bumper or just to the side of it, this should be possible.
Look at the frame underneath, and see how it could be made..... You may just come up with an idea that is marketable.!! The best antenna place for CB transmission/reception is using the tallest position, and the roof also makes a good reflector. (skipland) When was the last time you saw a 9' whip? Do the off road guys still use these with flags on top? Last edited by LibertyTC; 11-21-2009 at 08:31 PM.. |

I was searching the web and found the following linke: ARIZONA ROCKY ROAD ANTENNA MOUNTS FOR JEEP WRANGLER, UNLIMITED AND LIBERTY
Scroll down the page a little for an antenna mount that attaches to the Liberty spare tire. |

Your link will work for a KJ...but for a KK Jeep liberty.....
They moved the spare tire under the vehicle, it no longer hangs off the cargo door. Most do mount the antenna for the KJ off the tire, like your good link shows. Alliantz, sorry.. as this tread was started by two members with a KK request, I thought everyone in here was after a KK mount only, I did not realize you were after one for your KJ....my mistake, I would have pointed you in the right direction otherwise. I am multitasking and working a few forums at once sometimes (me distracted) Like other forums, it would be nice if we could separate the two models, one forum for KJ and another for KK's. I have a magnetic mount antenna on my '03 Ford Expedition. It sits on the roof, 6" from the rear hatch. The cable runs down under the rear hatch weatherstripping to the floor area, then under the plastic panels on the side, under the rear seats, under the rear floor mat and along the base of the front console. I connect it to a handheld radio shack 40 ch. It's perfect, doesn't allow water in and and is very hidden. I don't see why you can't do the same on the KK.

I found this at lostkjs: LOST JEEPS :: View topic - CB and antenna
The antenna mount looks pretty clean. I don't think where he mounted the radio would work for me though... I don't feel like giving up that leg room. |

In case anyone wants to do something similar, the antenna install I did ( the post on LOST ), uses a Firestik doorjam mount. There is just enough space at the top of that taillight to fit the mount and wire though without modifications.
Also, the other nice thing about the mount is that you can easily adjust the angle at any time ( with allen wrench ) to point it more toward the center if the vehicle if you know you will be driving in an area with low hanging branches on the left side of the jeep. |

wolverine: Any other ideas about where to mount the radio unit? I'm not really seeing a lot of options (space).

use a mount that is drilled into frame behind taillights, problem with this is you are limiting range in one direction. another option is a mount that you can lay down when finished. it just lays flush with the top and you just pop it back up when you leave and it locks itself. This allows you to fit into the garage and gives you the best range.
