Are the KJ's reliable after 100K?

Thinking about selling the TJ's because it just isn't useful anymore for family of 3 and someday family of 4. Now this isn't our main vehicle but more of just a run around/parts runner. But I will also use it to take my kids to daycare everyday. From what I can find online I can sell my TJ for about what a 02-03, 100K miles + KJ is worth. But I also don't want something is known POS after 100K. My TJ has been pretty much trouble free so far. (110K).

My 04 is at 177,000 and have never had an issue with it , buddy has an 03 with 202,000 and same way, both DDs and used as they're suppose to be
read about some that are at 300,000-325,000 and still going great.
Maintenance like any of them is key, if they have been taken care of they'll keep on ticking , if not.......

Aside from normal stuff like brakes, tires... there's only a few things to look out for. Mine is a 2005 purchased in 2004, with just over 97,000 on it. I wouldn't say it has any more problems than most cars, and all the issues I can think up are accessories versus powertrains.

Window regulators (done 2 of those, 2008 and 2012), water pump (failed this summer), CV axle shafts (just did one of those), U joint (did it last fall).

I wouldn't say all of these are pain points for the Liberty aside from the regulators and maybe the water pump. The driveline parts were most likely just because of how we drive it. The axle was a failed C clip that allowed the half shaft to slip against the stub, which ate the splines.

Also some people have issues with the HVAC fan blower, and they need to replace a resistor (cheap, easy). I have never had that fail.

Mindset, skillset, toolset - in that order!

110k '05 KJ Ltd, loaded, and only problem has been a couple small things, stereo went and speakers, otherwise solid. And I'd been starting to think it was time to dump it but reading these reports is a great confidence builder, thanks.

My step-dad's has around 260,000+ miles. Aside from the ball joint gave out a couple days before he got the recall notice. I believe everything else has been good for him asie from general maintenance. But he's having me replace everything down to new cv axles currently.

I have a 02 KJ 3.9L, manual trans with 195K. Still very reliable. About to take 2nd 1,000+ mile trip in 2 weeks and I wouldn't do that if I was worried about anything. Regular maintenance is key.

I got rid of my KJ at 72k miles because it had problem after problem.

My dad got rid of his KJ at $80k miles because it had problem after problem.

My buddy ditched his at 75k because he could not deal with the problems any more.

So, from my seat, I will never in this life own another KJ...ever.

You know the oil wont change itself right? Haha just kidding. Never heard of someone having so many problems with before. Especially at such low mileage. But hey who knows. I have an '02 with 99k and it's still running strong. Next upgrades will be a lift and rock rails

And then you bought a JK

Then again your story is kinda fishy as 3,and at the same mileage, have "so many problems" that you had to pawn them off to someone else.Sounds like a complete fabrication or just a bunch of very lazy poeple,or both.

[QUOTE=tjkj2002;14427699]And then you bought a JK

Call me a liar if it makes you feel better. My dad's and my KJ received perfect maintenance. So far, my JK has been flawless for 15k hard miles.

My sport went through two front diffs, two pinion seals and I gave up and simply added grease when the 3rd one was leaking, one rear end, one transfer case, and AC, an idler pulley, an alternator, and the valve guide seals were leaking at 60k.

My dad's Limited went through a transfer case, a pinion seal, AC, it started burning oil at 70k, and the tranny was starting to shift poorly when he dumped it.

My buddy's was on its third rear end and second transmission when his AC crapped at 70k and he gave up.

But then, maybe everyone I ever knew that owned a KJ was just unlucky.

I was just offering experience to the OP who probably will not get an unbiased opinion of the KJ here. When I owned one, I used to defend the KJ too because it made me feel better about owning it.

Still sounds fishy or you just totally abuse the **** out of them.AC going out, happens to all vehicles regardless of who made it.Burning oil,bad PCV valve for the 3.7.Serp pulley's,again a wear item, they all will fail.Mud in the alternator does not help.T-case going out,yep I know how that happened, user error.Seals leak, what synthetic gear is best known for, easy fix by not using it.Front diffs going, that is abuse or neglect.I ran 32" tires on my D30A on some of the hardest trails here in Colorado and in MOAB and never blew apart a diff, driver skill prevents that.

I abuse mine hard and not one failed part besides a CV joint which my stupid fault anyway.
