KJ engine rebuild?

I have a coworker who bout an 02 KJ about 8 months ago and the engine has blown in it. It has 156k miles on it and is the 3.7 liter engine. Her mechanic told her these engines are notorious for blowing well before the 156k mile mark. I am unfamiliar with KJs, but I have owned an XJ, TJ, and CJ myself without any major issues. Is the 3.7 liter engine prone to problems? I know 156k is quite a bit of miles. This is more for curiosity sake than anything else.

Few of them have issues with valves but for as many that are out there it's not a real problem.
Many of us have way more miles than you mention and no issues , some even in to the 300-35,000 mile range. Have a buddy with an 03 and 212,000, my 04 has 186,000 uses no oil, runs as smooth today as it did when I bought it new
Regular maintenance and just getting them out and running them is the key to keeping them going.

That was my impression too but she was told these engines tend to give out around 100-120k miles. Thanks for the input!

There are way more running at say over 175,000 than there are that gave up at 100,000 I'd say
Of course you never hear much from the people who just keep them maintained and running mile after mile. You only hear from the ones whose didn't

Agreed! Maintenance plays a huge part!
