Key not turning in ignition

I've talked to a bunch of people and did a little research and concluded that the ignition lock cylinder on my 2003 Jeep Liberty is broken. I called Pop-A-Lock and they said they would repair it for $200. I'm really low on cash and I will be very disappointed if they can't solve the problem. I've seen videos of people repairing the lock cylinders, and replacing them. But in these videos, the keys worked on the lock cylinder for it to be removed.

Since I could not afford the $200 at the moment, I pulled out my starter from under the dash and have been starting the car with a screwdriver. I realize that I can only do this for so long because the screwdriver has already started to wear down the space in the starter for the starter pin and it hasn't been a week since the incident.

What is the most cost effective way to repair? I've been told that $200 is actually a good price, but if there are any corners to cut please let me know!
