Just leased a Liberty and something always has to go wrong!

You are now looking at the proud owner of a new black 4x2 automatic Jeep Liberty.
We ended up paying $289 a month INCLUDING taxes, and only paying incentives (no cash down, 12k miles a year for 36 months).
One problem. I left the dealer and on my dash I saw the TRIP meter was on, I didnt know how to switch it to see the actual mileage. On the lease it says I left the dealer with 50 miles on the car.
WRONG!
I got home and tampered with it a little until I figured out how to make the mileage pop up.
Multiply that 50 miles the dealer told me by 8.
Yes, I signed a lease on a car with 450 miles already driven on it. Only, the dealer told me "Theres only 54 miles driven on the car"
WTF? Is this even considered a NEW CAR?!?!?
450 miles is basically like the car has been driven for 3 weeks. Im not too fond of paying for a 'used' car the same price I would have paid if i had gotten a new one. And for those of you that are saying "its not used its only been driven for 2 weeks", well alot can happen in 2 weeks and 450 miles: What they did with the engine, if anything went wrong with the car, if they broke in the engine correctly... Alot of things fall into place in the first month of a car.
I bought a 2006.5 (Yes its considered 2006.5 and not just 2006) VW Rabbit before this car and the VW Dealer didnt even mention to me that the whole passenger door and driver side fender was repainted before the car was fully paid for. Actually they never mentioned it to me, carmax told me it was repainted before when I went to them to see how much I could trade the VW in for. So never again am I trusting a dealer that has driven a car off the lot for so long and everything "SEEMS" fine with the car.

Will the dealer give me a NEW car considering the lease is wrong and says I have 350 miles less than what I really have, even if it means transferring a car from another dealer if they dont have a black one? If they dont fix it, itll mean Im already set back 450 miles on my 1,000 miles a month limit. Not cool.
And no, I dont want them to just redo the lease saying that the car started out with 450 miles. I negotiated on a price for a NEW car with 54 miles on it and thats what I expect to get.

My first Jeep and I didnt expect something as stupid as the dealer not knowing the difference between the Mileage meter and the Trip meter.

The first thing you should have done is driven straight back to the dealer or at least called them the moment you noticed the mileage was not correct with the lease. Now you've wasted some time and hopefully they believe that you didn't put those miles on yourself.
And besides straightening the lease out... who really cares. You didn't buy it, you're leasing it. You're basically renting it and will be giving it back in 3 years anyway. Anything that could go wrong will be fixed by warranty.

One of the sales people probably took it as a demo for a while and was using the trip meter. It looks like they left it on the trip meter and it was an honest mistake that they looked at that and assumed it was the odometer. I'm sure if you go back and approach them nicely they will be able to work something out...at least it seems like it.

Rule #1 - read the contract - and agree with the details - before you sign.

The problem is it's your word against theirs. You didn't notice the discrepancy at the time, who's to say they did either? Maybe they noticed the real mileage and maybe they didn't. The fact is you agreed to the contract and a deal is a deal.

You said you weren't open to the idea of rewriting the lease to show 450 miles instead of 50. I think you'd be lucky to get even that much of a concession from the dealer. Unless your lease is unusual and specifically states it's a "new" vehicle (what does "new" mean, anyway?) it stated quite clearly that the vehicle had 54 miles on it, and you said that was agreeable. It's a little late to go back even a day or two later.

Feel free to take it up with the dealership but I don't think you have a case. If they do anything to help you should be very thankful - most would say too bad, so sad. Assuming they accept that you just didn't go for a long drive as soon as you picked up the vehicle, the amount of paperwork to make that change would be not insignificant. As for being able to give back that vehicle and get one with next to no miles, I don't see that happening. Maybe if a close personal friend or family member owned the vehicle, maybe. But the amount of paperwork they'd have to do isn't worth the time and effort.

I understand your frustration, but you have your new vehicle. While it may seem huge in the grand scheme of things and over the course of the entire lease it's not a huge difference. Yes, it sucks, but that's why that's one of the first things you should have noticed, but I'm sure you're not the only person who was wowed by the new vehicle. (As an example I didn't even realize I had different tires from what I was expecting to have until a month later!)

I called the dealer the second I found out about it. The manager was there but the dealer was closed we basically cought him on his way out. Theyre going to add 500 miles onto the lease, so that it doesnt hurt me.
They actually told me to choose any other Liberty off the lot that was the same package to "exchange" mine, but they didnt have black and I love that metallic look in the Jeep black so I said its a no go. So theyre just going to add the 500 onto my lease.
Also, theyre going to give me a set of the mats that come off the Limited.
And I dont know if it came with the car or if theyre feeling generous but they also gave me free oil changes for the whole lease.

They also decided to give my mom a good deal on the Jeep she was lookin at, as a form of sympathy and in hopes that we fill out that survey they send us without saying anything bad about the dealer. She ended up getting a 4x4 '08 Grand Cheroke Limited with leather interior, Nav, MyGig, a hemi engine, and a bunch of other stuff with 15,000 miles for 36 months for 449 a month tax included.

My only concern is what happened to the car for that whole 480 miles it was driven by someone else. I mean, Im sure the dealer has some record of where the car was for all those miles. Right? Its just in the back of my head thinking what could have possibly gone wrong with that car during the first 480 miles.

All in all, reading what you guys said an "average" dealer would have done by just shrugging me off their shoulders and saying its my problem, the dealer I went to deserves a pat on the back and a good score on their survey or whatever the salesman was talking about. Guess Ill figure out when it comes in the mail.

Dang, shes paying $450 to LEASE a WK? Thats alot.

Sorry you didnt check the miles out before buying the thing. I usually give a vehicle a 100% look over before buying it.
