Lower Ball Joints

In case you have ADD and don't feel like reading, the recall is for lower ball joints.

Interestingly, I was at the dealer yesterday for an oil change...and they came out and said, "oh, there is a recall and we are replacing the ball joint". It was replaced under the last recall about two years ago. Yet, this was just announced about 5 hours ago, they must have known for awhile I guess?!?! So, got mine done yesterday...I beat the rush I guess.

Wonder what the specifics are about the recall. I just had mine replaced last month. Are they using the same joints? Will there be a time frame to get them replaced if they are still within safe specs? Say, next Spring after I beat the pudding out of this set over the Winter.

No way am I waiting. I have 56K on my '03 so as soon as I get the recall notice I'm going down and saying "Here ya go, thank you very much. I'll be seeing you again the moment I detect so much as a wobble in these 'redesigned' units so you can replace them again. Have a nice day "

So they're going to put the same crap on my 06 with 1500 miles on it. It sounds like they got away with using the "shipping/installation" as the problem and not inferior parts or backwards design of the joint as the problem. As another reported this is just free lower ball joints for life. Any indication they are using a better joint? Maybe they should do the same for the EGR valves and torue converters on CRD's

Only speculation but DC will probably do this like my co-worker's Dakota. Use the same trash parts and promise replacements as needed to 100K miles. Hey, you only have 1500 miles on your CRD. What is that, like 3 fill-ups? You have get out more. I think I put that much on mine in the past 2 weeks.

It is probably wishfull thinking, but I a hoping they are changing the joint not just replacing with the same ****. My thought process on this is that they are even recalling KJ's that have already been recalled before. I am probably incorrect, but hoping.

And I've had it 2 months already When I used my tdi for work I was putting up to 1k a week on it. Now doing less miles and on a company supplied van. Actually I've put in six half a tanks I got it because I was unsure of the future of diesels in the US after 2006 models and wanted another diesel

I guess when the first replacements go bad I'll put on a set of MOOG's. I might also ask DrZ about what they are being replaced by even though I know I'll get a wrong or generic answere
