jeep locking itself repeatedly while driving

After I noticed another driver lock their vehicle with a fob and my vehicle locked, my '04 Liberty repeatedly locks itself whether I'm driving or parked. It locked itself this morning after I put my child in, so thankfully I had another fob. I can't find much on why this happened or how to fix it.

That's a weird one. Remember, if you don't have the other fob you can unlock with the key.

Maybe one of your fobs is accidentally switching when it should not. Try remove the batteries inside the fob for a while to see what happens.

The door locks are activated by the BCM which is the module on the reverse side of the internal fuse panel (Junction Block).
The doors can get locked either by pressing down the switch on the front doors to lock/unlock everything or by the remote fob. The remote fob receiver is mounted on the BCM on early models...the receiver looks about the size of a package of ciggarettes.

So possibly you have one of the front switches on the doors intermittantly shorting out....acting as if you pressed down the switch...or there is a fault with the BCM, the Receiver (Access Control Module) or the Door Lock Relay which is mounted on the rear side of the junction block, or a wiring short somewhere.

You need to download the KJ Service Manual here....includes the circuit diagrams....there is no 2004 manual so use the 2003 Service Manual which should be close enough. If you go to the Wiring diagram, Component Index, you can find which relay on the rear of the Junction Block ie. the rear of the internal fuse panel....is the Door Lock Relay. I would first swap that relay out with an identical one next to it in case the relay is intermittantly making contact for no reason.`

Then you should re-plug the Access Control Module mounted on the BCM, re-plug the connectors on the BCM, then by means of a cheap digital multimeter go through the wiring diagram to trace down the fault. First try driving with the Door Lock Relay pulled out....if there are no strange locking problems it means the BCM is operating the Door Lock Relay for some or other reason...the BCM can be re-programmed to do things such as lock the doors remotely, flash the lights when doing so or lock the doors once you get up to a certain speed so maybe there is a bug inside the BCM that re-programing it would fix.

Here is the download: http://www.colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ

Thanks!

I'll give those suggestions a try.
